Network Marketing-The Key to Success

According to the Direct Selling Association there are over 20 million Americans involved in network marketing. The retail sales combined is over $35 Billion per year. I’ve seen a statistic that over 5,500 people a day in the U.S. join a network marketing company.

But a small percentage of people achieve enormous success. Why is that? People that have joined a network marketing or multi-level marketing company that didn’t do well may blame something out of their control. They may say it was the product, the company, the compensation plan, lack of support or something else.

But in my combined experience of over 12 years in the industry it has nothing to do with any of those things. I say that for 2 reasons. One, each company has people that do very well. They sell a tremendous amount of product and build large organizations. Why didn’t any of those things hold them back?

But more significant is the 2nd reason. People that don’t know how to market and won’t take the time to learn will fail in this industry. It’s all about marketing. It’s right in the name! In fact, someone could have the greatest products to sell, a compensation plan that pays extremely well, and a company and upline that provides solid support. But they won’t be successful if they don’t learn how to market.

Traditional methods of marketing are warn market and cold market. I won’t go into details here on either but both should be done. The good news is that social media and the internet in general has given us another avenue for marketing. However, it may be a blessing for some and a curse for others. Because even though online marketing helps us get our product and business opportunity in front of many more people quicker, there is a learning curve to doing it well. That learning curve is far steeper than warm or cold marketing. But in today’s world, if someone wants to be successful beyond just selling to a few people per month, they have to learn online marketing.

In 2012 my wife Shirley and I started with a network marketing company selling financial services products. I admired and respected the people that were guiding me in the business but they didn’t do any online marketing. So we figured it out. We started getting people coming to us. Others in the company just thought we were extremely hard workers (which we are) and that’s why we were winning contests and getting awards. But it had to do with how we were marketing the products and business. To give you an idea of how affective online marketing can be, we haven’t done anything to promote that business in 9 months yet we get leads every day for our services or business.

But now it’s 2018 and the internet has changed. Social media has exploded. Social media platforms now have more tools and options available to help people market. Of course, the downside of that is that there is more to learn. So our biggest challenge has been to help everyone on our team do online marketing the simplest and most effective way possible.

We completed what I’ll call Phase 1 of that project. We’ve developed a Facebook Group that our team members can add their friends to so their friends can get information about our products, see testimonials, and learn about the company. This alleviates any lack of selling experience by the distributor. They don’t have to sell. The friend sells themselves by perusing the Facebook Group. It’s working very, very well. And, our team is very excited about the results. The more people use it, the more success they’re having.

Phase 2 is coming. We’re developing a method of generating leads online that anyone can use. This way someone can truly have a home based business and do it part time yet sell product and build a team of distributors because the system is doing the work for them.
